ROCKETING TO PHONICS PLANET, GET ON BOARD WITH YOYO!!!!!!!

Children are always surrounded by letters and sounds. Since they are born, they are exposed to parents’ words and songs and as they grow up, written stories are an important part of their lives either at school or at home.

Letters are like block pieces waiting to be put together. Each letter has a sound and by blending them together we create words, which are the basis of communication that is of paramount importance at early education.

Phonics paves the way for children to become competent readers and writers. Without an early and strong learning in phonics, children may have a hard time to decode words and understand the structure of written language which is a core skill in the first years of Primary Education.

Our ultimate goal is to help our children to decipher words on their own so that they become confident readers who need less help with the reading-writing process.

In our school we start our journey at 3 years, focusing on STORIES. What kind of stories? Stories from daily life that children can identify with, and with which they can connect emotionally and the corresponding vocabulary will be introduced with songs, games and activities.

By doing this, we make sure they become familiar with all the English sounds as native children do, creating a supportive ground for the real learning of letters and sounds which lies ahead.

Next stop, at 4 and 5 years, is when we enhance stories and songs with jingles and gestures for each sound which evolves in words and consequently in reading comprenhension.

Story songs, jingles and actions associated to each sound are the best tools for learning the sounds while having fun.

Our 4 and 5-year-old students love plunging into their YoYo Phonics sessions. Each week, they discover new phonemes that help them learn to read new words in an amazing and effective way.

We keep on using stories, songs related to each sound, interactive games, and varied activities which show them an amazing world of learning. This playful methodology facilitates the understanding of phonemes and fosters their enthusiasm and love for reading.
